I need help with Grand theft auto Vice City Stories please help?

Can you get your body-guards who get in the car with you, to shoot for you? in a lot of missions people are shooting out of the windows for you, so can you get your bodyguards that you recruit to do the same thing? do they need a certain weapon or something? please help, thanks a lot
